Controversial "BAT" Proposal Dropped

House Republican leaders have thrown in the towel on the controversial Border Adjustment Tax (BAT) - a key feature of the tax reform proposal offered by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) last year, which would have had the effect of taxing imports by as much as 20 percent. The announcement came in a joint statement from Congressional Republican leaders and the Administration, outlining the broad policy objectives of the tax reform proposal they will seek to move in the fall.

Online food market may not provide the tasty results operators expect

Amazon’s move to buy Whole Foods may have convinced investors that the online food market is the next Eldorado, but entrants face a number of issues that could spoil the feast for them.

ACE Deployment Postponed

CBP is rescheduling the last primary deployment of core trade processing capabilities in ACE which had been scheduled for July 8, 2017. This deployment includes liquidation (with the exception of the previously deployed electronic posting of the Notices of Liquidation on CBP.gov), reconciliation, drawback, duty deferral, collections and the Automated Surety Interface (ASI).
